Lenora J. Burwell, MS, BC, CTR Experienced Cancer Registry and Program Accreditation Leader

Lenora J. Burwell is a highly skilled and dedicated professional with over 20 years of experience in cancer registry management, health data analysis, and program accreditation. With a strong focus on improving cancer care operations and outcomes, she has a proven track record in managing comprehensive cancer program functions—from case finding and abstracting to long-term patient follow-up and data analysis for performance improvement initiatives.

Throughout her career, Lenora has overseen cancer registry operations for both academic and community-based cancer programs, including those seeking Commission on Cancer (CoC) accreditation and National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) certification. Her work includes coordinating CoC surveys, maintaining survey readiness, and facilitating key accreditation processes. Lenora has also contributed to the development of innovative cancer program models, including the CoC Comprehensive Community Cancer Program and the Integrated Network Cancer Program.

Her expertise spans across data collection, quality assurance, and process improvement, with a strong commitment to delivering actionable insights that enhance cancer care delivery. Lenora has served as a leader and mentor, recruiting and guiding skilled oncology data specialists, while also actively participating in national initiatives like the National Cancer Institute’s Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP) and the beta testing of the Rapid Cancer Registry System (RCRS).

A member of the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) and the North America Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR), Lenora has also contributed her expertise on the National Cancer Registrar Certification Council. She holds a Master’s degree in Health System Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Organizational Management, along with certifications as an Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) and an Oncology Coach.

Lenora’s work is grounded in her passion for advancing cancer care and her commitment to optimizing healthcare data systems to improve patient outcomes and program effectiveness.
