Professor of Communication, Stevenson University


Heather E. Harris, Ph.D. (Howard University) is a Professor of Communication at Stevenson University, as well as a communication consultant. She has received a number of academic awards. Her research focuses on representations of Africana women, primarily, and on the Obama effect. She is the editor of Neo-Race Realities in the Obama Era (SUNY Press 2019), and co-editor of two books- Michelle Obama and the FLOTUS Effect: Platform, Presence and Agency (Lexington Books 2019), and The Obama Effect: Multidisciplinary Renderings of the 2008 Campaign (SUNY Press 2010). Her work has appeared in academic journals, edited books, and the Baltimore Sun. She has been interviewed on, including but not limited to: NPR (Baltimore), Al Jazeera English’s The Stream, and in Montreal’s Caribbean Contact newspaper. Most recently, she served as the moderator for the Women of the World’s (WOW) Global 24 virtual conference panel focusing on women, race, and the Black Lives Matter Movement. She is an award-winning journalist who has worked in Canada, the Caribbean, and Namibia. She served as Stevenson University’s first Director of Multicultural Affairs and Special Assistant to the President from 2003-2009.
