Dr. Donna Shannon

Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University Maryland

Dr. Donna Shannon received a Ph. D. in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola University Maryland, after a 25-year career as a public school educator. She provided mental health services to adults and adolescents in Baltimore, Maryland for 12 years before moving to Chesapeake, Virginia to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She is licensed in both Maryland and Virginia.

Currently, Dr. Shannon is an adjunct online professor for Fordham University in New York. However, most recently, she has been providing virtual workshops and presentations on mental health for people of color to community and faith-based groups. Dr. Shannon believes that self-care strategies such as mindfullness-based cognition, reflection and the process of meditation strengthen our capacity to navigate through the on-going racial injustices and economic disparities in our society, as well as the extraordinary challenges presented by COVID-19. Her goal is to help others create a sense of inner peace by learning to “be” in the present moment, experience gratitude, and view all life events as opportunities for growth.
